People in Durham who want to stop smoking are being offered more free support than ever this Stoptober, including personal advice, quit aids and help managing nicotine cravings.
The campaign information was published by County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust on 30 September 2026. It says smokers do not have to try to quit alone, with support available through local stop-smoking services.
Support available to Durham residents
Stop-smoking advisers can provide personalised help, while nicotine replacement therapy and stop-smoking medicines are also available. People can also use the free Smoke Free app for digital support.
The trust says switching completely to vaping is less harmful than smoking and may help people manage nicotine cravings. Local stop-smoking services can provide advice and support, including free vape starter kits.
How to get help
Durham residents can contact the local service on 0800 7720565 or email [email protected].
Hospital patients should contact the Treating Tobacco Dependency Team at [email protected]. Separate support is available for Darlington residents on 0800 8021850 or through the Darlington Stop Smoking Hub.
The campaign says people who stop smoking for 28 days during Stoptober are five times more likely to quit for good. It also describes quitting as one of the most important decisions people can make for their health, adding that it is never too late to start.
