Durham University Business School is celebrating a double recognition after Professors Stefanie Reissner and Rudolf Sinkovics were awarded Fellowships by the British Academy of Management (BAM).

The university announced the achievement on 21 September 2026, describing it as recognition of the strength of Durham’s research, academic leadership and contribution to the development of management as a discipline. BAM is described by the university as the leading authority in the academic field of management in the UK.

Recognition for research and leadership

Professor Stefanie Reissner’s fellowship recognises her sustained contribution to research, researcher training and professional service. Durham University said her work has advanced understanding of organisations and management, while also supporting funding opportunities, methodological development and research excellence across the academic community.

She also received the BAM Medal for Leadership for her work as the Academy’s inaugural Chair of Research Grants between 2022 and 2025.

“I am honoured to be recognised by the BAM community for my research in organisation studies and qualitative research methodology and for my leadership role. I look forward to working with my fellow BAM Fellows to support the emerging generation of management researchers.”

Professor Rudolf Sinkovics was recognised for his contributions to international business and management research. The university highlighted his work in digitalisation, sustainability and global value chains.

His fellowship also reflects sustained service to BAM through leadership roles, peer review and capacity-building activities. Durham said his work has included supporting early-career researcher development, widening participation and capacity building.

“It means a great deal to be recognised by the wider management community, both for my international business research and for my contributions to early career researcher development, widening participation and capacity building. I look forward to continuing this work as a BAM Fellow.”

What the awards mean for Durham

The awards were presented at BAM’s annual conference, which celebrates excellence, leadership and lasting impact across management and business disciplines.

Durham University Business School said it is an internationally recognised centre of excellence in business education and one of the oldest business schools in the UK. It added that the school has been the professional home to multiple other BAM Fellows, alongside Professors Reissner and Sinkovics, and described this as evidence of its leadership in the field.

The school is triple accredited, according to the university, and was ranked in the world top 100 in the Financial Times European Business School Ranking 2025. It was also ranked ninth globally in the Financial Times Online MBA Ranking 2026 and joint 85th in the Financial Times Global MBA Ranking 2026.

Durham University said further information is available through its Business School webpages, including details of undergraduate, postgraduate, MBA, DBA, Executive Education and PhD programmes.
