Durham University will host the Universities UK Annual Conference in 2027, bringing university leaders, policymakers and partners to the city for two days of discussions about the future of higher education.
The conference will take place on 8 and 9 September 2027 and is described by the university as one of the most significant events in the UK higher education calendar. Its main venue will be the Teaching and Learning Centre, a flexible learning and events hub at the heart of Durham University’s campus.
What will happen at the conference?
The first day will include a dedicated programme for vice-chancellors and principals. It will provide time to discuss what the university describes as the most pressing issues facing the higher education sector.
The second day will bring together leaders from across the sector for keynote sessions, panel discussions and networking opportunities. Universities UK says the annual event gives higher education leaders the opportunity to exchange ideas and consider how the sector can respond to changing needs among students, businesses and communities.
We look forward to welcoming colleagues from across the country to Durham to host these important conversations in 2027.
The quotation is from Professor Karen O’Brien, Vice-Chancellor and Warden of Durham University. She said the university would work with colleagues, students and regional partners so the conference reflected the “innovation, collaboration and community spirit” associated with Durham.
Potential benefits for Durham
Durham University said the event is expected to create opportunities for engagement with local partners, policymakers, businesses and community organisations. It said those opportunities could help strengthen links between the university and the wider region.
Planning will draw on expertise from across the university. Staff and students will have opportunities to contribute to the event and present Durham’s strengths to a national audience.
Universities UK Chief Executive Vivienne Stern MBE described Durham University as an institution with a reputation for higher education and research excellence. She welcomed its selection as host of the 2027 conference.
Every year our colleagues from universities across the country gather at our Annual Conference to not only celebrate our achievements but also to consider how we can do more as a sector to meet the changing needs of students, businesses and communities.
Further details, including the conference programme, speakers and booking information, will be announced by Universities UK in due course. The university said enquiries about its public affairs engagement can be directed to its Communications and External Relations team.
